Let’s learn a little more about eyebrow microblading, or feathering, in the FAQ section below.

What is Eyebrow Microblading?

Also known as eyebrow feathering, microblading is the process of cutting small, hair-like strokes into the skin, using a hand tool with a special flex head of needles attached. This technique replicates your natural hair stroke pattern. It is used to fill in gaps and/or change the shape of your eyebrows. This method implants pigment to a depth of 0.6 – 1.2mm.

Microblading eyebrows is a semi-permanent procedure, meaning, over time as your dead skin cells are removed so is the colour implanted. It will become lighter and duller over time.

Will it damage my own hair?

No, it won’t damage your existing hairs as we are cutting in between hair follicles.

How long does the process take?

The first procedure usually takes up to 2 hours and the second procedure, called the touch up, is usually around 1 ½ hrs.

How long will it last?

Eyebrow microblading or eyebrow feathering usually lasts for up to 1 year, meaning, over time they fade and become less defined. Once you hit that yearly mark, a simple touch up will revive them. I do find that oilier skin types usually need their touch up in 6-8 months.

How long does it take to heal?

After your feathering eyebrow procedure, it takes 7 days to fully heal. During this period, you will not be able to get your eyebrows wet as this can alter the result of the final finish.

Here’s what you can expect over the healing process:

The day of treatment – eyebrows usually look nothing less than perfect just after the treatment is complete.

Day 2 of healing – eyebrows tend to be very dark, which can sometimes put clients into a state of panic, as they are noticeably darker than usual. Don’t worry! They will lighten.

Days 3, 4 and 5 of healing - eyebrows become itchy and can scab up a little. Make sure you don’t pick the scabs as this may affect the final look.

Day 6 of healing - the shape of the eyebrows will shrink down, and they will become much more settled.

Day 7 – this will be the first time you wash your face, including eyebrows.

They will become up to 30 -50% lighter and return to a more natural look.

Notes about scabbing: Do not pick the scabs, rather, let them fall off so your eyebrows can heal on their own. When you wash your face the majority of the scabs will wash off. Some people find that they don’t have any scabbing at all. Everyone is different and therefore healing will be different.

How soon can I have my touch up session?

I generally wait 6-8 weeks so that your skin has plenty of time to heal from the first session.

Is the touch up needed?

After your first session, some strokes may not have taken enough pigment or you may have some gaps where, when your scabs came off so did some of your colour. The touch up is to correct any unevenness. We can also adjust your colour at this point, if required. Most people don’t need much work done on the touch up, but I definitely suggest scheduling them in so that your brows can continue to look fresh and fabulous over time.

What type of pigments are used and how do you know what colour will be best for me?

Microblading pigments are water based. Before your treatment, I need to take into consideration your skin’s natural tones so I can determine how the pigment will heal under your skin. I like a lighter approach on your first visit so that we have room to adjust the colour if needed, on your touch up.

As your body absorbs the colour implanted, certain factors can affect the colour outcome. Things like your levels of sun exposure, any mineral deficiencies, medications, skin conditions and even ethnicity are considered.

Will you go over someone else’s work?

That depends on how much the previous treatment has faded and what it looks like now. I’d have to see your brows in person to determine whether I’d be able to provide the results you’re looking for.

How much does Eyebrow Microblading cost?

At Talene Hanna, microblading, misting, ombre and combo brows are priced at $600. This already includes 6-8 week touch up. The yearly retouch is at $350.
